Day 1: Nairobi – Sirimon Gate – Old Moses Camp (3,300m)
Depart Nairobi early in the morning and drive to Sirimon Gate, the starting point of your Mount Kenya adventure. After completing park registration and a briefing by your guide, begin your trek through the scenic moorland landscape. The trail gradually ascends to Old Moses Camp (3,300m), where you will enjoy dinner and spend the night. This first day is also an important acclimatization stage, helping your body adjust to the increasing altitude.
Day 2: Old Moses Camp – Mackinder’s Valley – Shipton’s Camp (4,200m)
After breakfast, continue your ascent through the breathtaking Mackinder’s Valley, renowned for its dramatic scenery, giant lobelias, and unique alpine vegetation. The trail offers spectacular views of Mount Kenya’s rugged peaks as you make your way to Shipton’s Camp (4,200m). Arrive in the afternoon, relax, and take in the magnificent mountain surroundings before dinner and your overnight stay.
Day 3: Shipton’s Camp – Simba Col – Lake Michaelson (4,000m)
Following breakfast, set out on one of the most scenic sections of the trek. Hike across Simba Col (approximately 4,620m), enjoying panoramic views of Mount Kenya’s impressive peaks and glacial landscapes. From the col, descend toward the tranquil Lake Michaelson (4,000m), nestled deep within the mountain valleys. Dinner and overnight accommodation are at the lakeside camp.
Day 4: Lake Michaelson – Lake Ellis – Roadhead – Chogoria – Nairobi
After breakfast, begin your descent through the spectacular Gorges Valley, passing the beautiful Lake Ellis before continuing to Roadhead. From here, an optional 4×4 vehicle transfer can be arranged to Chogoria Town, eliminating the longer walking section and providing a more comfortable journey. Upon reaching Chogoria, depart for Nairobi, arriving later in the day.
