Lake Nakuru National Park Day Trip – Wildlife & Scenic Safari Adventure
Experience an unforgettable full-day safari to Lake Nakuru National Park, one of Kenya’s most scenic wildlife destinations located on the floor of the Great Rift Valley. Situated approximately 160 km northwest of Nairobi, the park covers about 177 square kilometres and is famous for its beautiful soda lake, abundant birdlife, and successful rhino conservation efforts.
The park is home to over 50 species of mammals and more than 400 bird species, including flamingos, pelicans, storks, herons, and other water birds. Established in 1966 as a bird sanctuary, Lake Nakuru has become one of Kenya’s leading conservation areas, especially known for protecting both black and white rhinos.
During your game drive, you will explore the lake shores, acacia woodlands, grasslands, and surrounding forests in search of a variety of wildlife including rhinos, lions, leopards, buffaloes, giraffes, zebras, hippos, cheetahs, hyenas, gazelles, impalas, waterbucks, baboons, and many more.
Lake Nakuru National Park Day Tour Itinerary
6:00 AM – Nairobi Pickup
You will be picked up from your Nairobi hotel or residence and begin your journey to Lake Nakuru National Park in a comfortable safari vehicle.
7:30 AM – Great Rift Valley Viewpoint Stop
Enjoy a scenic stop at the Great Rift Valley viewpoint, where you will have breathtaking views of the valley floor, Mount Longonot, Mount Suswa, Lake Naivasha, and the volcanic landscapes around Hell’s Gate.
9:00 AM – Arrival & Morning Game Drive
Arrive at Lake Nakuru National Park and begin your game drive around the lake. Look out for large flocks of flamingos, great white pelicans, ibis, jacanas, plovers, storks, herons, and other bird species. Continue to Baboon Cliff for spectacular panoramic views of the lake before proceeding with wildlife viewing.
1:00 PM – Picnic Lunch at Makalia Waterfalls
Enjoy a relaxing picnic lunch at the scenic Makalia Waterfalls campsite, surrounded by beautiful landscapes and the possibility of spotting wildlife nearby.
2:00 PM – Afternoon Game Drive
Continue exploring the park in search of more wildlife across the savannah plains, acacia forests, and wetlands surrounding the lake.
3:00 PM – Depart Lake Nakuru National Park
After an exciting day of wildlife viewing, exit the park and begin your journey back to Nairobi.
6:00 PM – Arrival in Nairobi
Drop-off at your Nairobi hotel or transfer to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) for your evening flight.
